COVID-19 Mental Health and Unemployment Rate
Independent Research Project

Introduction
The pandemic originating in China in 2019 has caused billions of people’s lives to be affected as a result. In the project, data about 1. mental health symptoms and 2. unemployment rate on a national and state level in the United States is analyzed to determine if these factors were affected due to COVID-19.
1. Examined data about the percentage of people with mental health symptoms nationally and for each state in the United States. On a national level, the percentage of people with mental health symptoms for different demographics such as race, gender, age, and education level are analyzed. Classification of states by time zones was also investigated.
2. Analyzed data about unemployment rate nationally and for each state to determine if the rate substantially changed from 2019 to 2020. Each year and month from April to October was examined to find differences in each span of time
